Pumpkin Spice is always nice.

The last few years I have been in a funk as I approach the holiday season. But this year I feel more like myself than I have in a long time! Thank you therapy. I am excited to put in the effort to make each holiday special for my kiddos and of course… myself. ;) We have officially reached Fall, despite the high temperature here in San Diego. That isn’t stopping me however, so bring on all the Autumn recipes, aromas, and food.

Yesterday was the Autumn Equinox and although I didn’t have a big plan for how I will celebrate the beginning of my favorite season, there was one thing I did want to make, Wax Melts with a little extra flare. I had these Sugar Skull silicone molds from Home Goods and I thought, this is just perfect. But really, any silicone mold you like, you can use. It’s just going to melt anyway right? You can find the original recipe link above, but I modified it just a bit with my current favorite aroma blend.

If you’re wondering what the heck a wax melt is, you’re probably not alone. They are blocks of beeswax and oil, typically scented with essential oils or fragrance (I vote essential oils), that are placed on a wax warmer (Electric or Candle Powered). I linked an example, but you can find the candle powered at the dollar store too! As the wax melts, the aromas are released gently giving that extra layer of cozy to your room. Be sure to keep out of reach of children and pets as the wax will get hot. Let me know if you make these!

Pro Tips from Mountain Rose Herbs

  • If you don’t have any molds to use, you can pour wax drops on parchment paper.

  • If you have lots of wax left in your wax warmer, but the aroma is dissipating, you can freshen it up with some new essential oils. I like 2 drops of cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg, and one drop of clove and cardamom to freshen the pumpkin spice recipe above. Simply let the warmer do its magic in melting the solids and then add essential oils.

  • If you love pumpkin spice and don’t want to make wax melts, the essential oil blend can also be used in a diffuser. Use the ratio in the above pro tip.
